Internal Tooth Bleaching

What is internal tooth bleaching?

It’s not uncommon for a tooth that has had trauma to darken or become discolored. This is due to blood and other fluids leaking from the root canal into the outer layers of dentin and enamel of the tooth.

Popular teeth whitening techniques using trays, strips, or LED lights are not successful in these cases, but fortunately, internal bleaching is. In this technique, an endodontist accesses the pulp chamber of the tooth, cleans it out, seals it, and places a peroxide gel into the area. This gel will then penetrate into the inner layer, whitening the tooth from the inside out.
